Six Treats That Go Great With Coffee

Coffee after dinner or in the middle of the day calls for a snack. Some of the greatest things in life are perfectly accommodated by a good cup of joe.

1. Doughnuts. What goes together better than coffee and doughnuts? You don’t have to be part of a police department to dunk a soft, fresh doughnut into a steaming cappuccino.

2. Coffee cake. The crumbly cinnamon sugar washes down deliciously with a creamy cup. With a raspberry filling, the dense, soft white cake will have an unexpected tangy flavor that perfectly complements the brew.

3. Cheesecake. Thick, cool cheesecake, no matter how delicious and rich it is, can sometimes get stuck in the back of the throat. Helping it ease down with a warm cup of coffee shows that opposites really do attract. The cold, thick texture of this cake works perfectly with the silky smooth beverage.

4. Key Lime Pie. The tangy zing of a big slice of key lime pie is always refreshing after a hot gulp of coffee.

5. Croissants. This combination is most popular in Britain, where some have the pastry with a cup of coffee every morning. It makes a light, delicate brunch or breakfast. A morning snack this elegant calls for serving coffee in dainty teacups.

6. Ice cream. Chocolate and vanilla can be served on the side, or, for the more adventurous, directly inside the coffee cup. Then, the coffee is a dessert all on its own!
